A year of Responsive Growth

The Learning Trust has grown this year with several additional team members and projects. We have made significant progress towards our 2023 priorities, including:

Building the After-School Workforce: We continue to build the Social Employment Fund (SEF) project with additional partners, consortiums, and employees.

Developing Young Managers: We headed the call for more support for the sector’s emerging managers and established our Management Accelerator programme with 20 inspirational leaders from across the country.

Building Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Capacity: We prioritised in-person practical engagements to introduce partners to the key aspects of data collection and analysis.

Supporting Literacy Models: We partnered with several organisations to pilot the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) model and Zazi iZandi to support learners in reading for meaning.

Advocating for After School: We have seen far more engagement from the sector with over 1000 new followers across our media platforms, reaching 7200. We want to thank all our new and existing supporters who share our commitment to the After School sector.

It has been a fun, fast and meaningful year for The Learning Trust and the sector at large. We are excited for what 2024 holds. A particular highlight is the Amplify After School Symposium in Johannesburg on January 30th-31st. This networking and learning event will be epic; we hope to see as many of you there as possible. Get your tickets here. Read on for more updates.

We wish to thank and commend all After School Programmes (ASPs) for the essential service they are providing for the children and youth of South Africa.

In case you missed it…

Explore our latest Learning Briefs from the Gauteng and Western Cape Communities of Practice (CoPs).

In the Western Cape, our focus was on Lights On After School and its role in equalising education for learners in underserved communities. Together with partners, we examined how ASPs contribute to the equality of education in South Africa. The GP CoP hosted in collaboration with Outreach Foundation, delved into how ASPs extend learning Beyond the Classroom. This learning brief highlights holistic development opportunities, including academic tutoring, literacy and numeracy support, sports, arts, and life skills programmes.
