TLT Executive Director, Charlene Petersen-Voss Talks about the importance of After School Programmes

[LISTEN] What happens after the school bell rings can open up a world of opportunity. Speaking to CapeTalk’s Clarence Ford, The Learning Trust’s Executive Director, Charlene Petersen-Voss, highlighted the role of after-school programmes in supporting children beyond the classroom. From homework support and mentorship to opportunities to build confidence and discover their talents, these programmes help children stay engaged in learning and explore their potential.

“I think an important thing for us to understand is that after-school programmes are not just for children who struggle academically,” Charlene said.

As the seventh annual Lights On After School campaign shines a spotlight on these opportunities under the theme “Switched On”, Charlene encouraged parents to connect with programmes in their communities and called on funders, businesses and the public to support the organisations creating opportunities for children beyond the school day.
